California Leaving the US Would be the Ultimate Statement of California Resistance
Look, there’s no doubt that the re-election of Donald Trump has driven the fears and frustrations of most progressively minded Californians to seek alternatives and solutions to America’s social and political de-evolution into Christo-fascism with an oligarchy run dictatorship.
A growing feeling of hopelessness as an openly cruel and California Values hostile US federal political shift… That for the foreseeable future, has Californians waking up to an America they no longer recognize and wonder if they want to even continue to be associated with.
Even day after day a new federal court ruling, federal policy shift, or executive order convince more and more Californians, from the Governor to the grocery store clerk, that Californians will need to mount political resistance if any shred of California Values are to survive.
And this combination of realization and frustration has led to an explosion of California Secession postings across dinner tables, and the Social mediaverse…
Because the truth is… California Leaving the United States would be the Ultimate Statement of Anti-Trump, Anti-fascist, and Anti-Red State, California Resistance.
Fifth largest economy in the world… Highest GDP on the planet… Global leader in trade, technology, entertainment, agriculture, and the environment… All at the same time… So why can’t we be our own country… Or at least maybe we should join Canada instead…
Lots there to unpack… I mean Canada?… Really?… but one thing that always shows up in every conversation or media thread goes something to the effect of…
You know they’ll never let California leave… or… If California leaves America will invade California, right?
Which is a recognition that the United States has so completely forgotten its own original struggle against oppression and its own founding principles as a nation that its own American declaration of independence becomes a subversive document…
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, –That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to affect their Safety and Happiness.
How things change over 250 years…
You know the USA will never let California leave… or… If California leaves, America will invade California, right?…
Sorry to burst that bubble but today America is the global Imperial power run by despots who have already stated that to one degree or another US occupation of California is inevitable.
But, as a Qualifying statement and with the recognition that the desire for Peace and an end to California’s involvement with American Imperialism and endless war is one of the driving reasons people consider the idea of California Independence…
The movements textbook answer to that… They’ll never let you leave thing is… The California Independence Movement must seek independence through legal and peaceful means…
So, If America won’t let California leave, in that case, we stay! Bide our time, and wait for a better time, while we work to improve the rights and policies for Californians… etc.
Nobody argues that as a guiding principle, but unfortunately these days the question calls the answer back into question.
If we’re basically sure that the federal government would opt to use political, judicial, or military force to bully Californians as a free people into involuntary compliance with the dictates of Christo-fascism with an oligarchy run dictatorship like we see unfold today…
Can any self-respecting Californian tolerate the damage that will be done, possibly for generations to come, if our basic human rights, socio-economic prosperity, and environmental progress can be crushed by a vindictive pen stroke 2500 miles away?
Because we’re on our own… We can already see that America’s complicit Democratic Party Corporate Media talks about fighting… but truthfully fund raising and waiting for future federal elections that may or may not happen is their only real plan.
So, for the nation-state of California, biding our time and hoping for better days already seems like it just isn’t a viable option except maybe for the privileged few.
And looking to our fearless federal leaders, any form of California Resistance, peaceful or not, may be targeted for US reprisal and meet with American political violence anyway.
So, I guess what is meant here is that the US will never let California leave… and If California tries to leave, America will invade California… but any form of California Resistance where Californians exercise their freedoms of speech, association, or assembly, could see America retaliate anyway?
Which if you needed a reason for Californians to work toward greater self-governance, I don’t have a better one than that.
So, with that said it is up to Californians to organize a resistance from the coffee house to the state house if those “all men are created equal/Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness” California Values are to survive the 21st century…
Then the possibilities and ideals of forming our own free and independent California Republic, even if that isn’t your intent, always remains the ultimate form of California resistance.
